About the Teacher
...

My Name is Laura Noecker and I teach art to grades 1-12 at Hartington Public and 9-12 at Cedar Catholic. I've been teaching Art in Hartington for 25 years. I received my B.A. Degree from University of Northern Iowa and M.A. Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane College. I am on the advisory board at the Arlo and Anne Worthe Art Gallery in Hartington and also server as the Superintendent of school exhibits at the Cedar County Fair. I am an active member of The National Art Education Association, The Nebraska Art Teacher’s Association and a member of the Omaha Joslyn Art Museum. I chose Art Education as a career because I love all aspects of art and I enjoy teaching kids about art. Art was always my favorite class when I was in school! I enjoy drawing, painting, & printmaking. I love the outdoors. I like running, riding horses, fishing, golfing and observing nature.

WHAT WILL YOUR CHILD BE DOING IN ART CLASS?

Art instruction will encompass the major aspects of Art: drawing, painting, printing, weaving, ceramics, three dimensional art and two dimensional design. When appropriate, students will complete at least 1 project in each of these areas.
Children will be looking at art to learn about other cultures, places, artists and works of art.
Children will be talking about art to discuss meanings, ideas, feelings and mood.
Children will be making art to create expressive visual images.
And lastly, children will be showcasing their art through several avenues: Lewis & Clark Conference Art Exhibit, USD annual High School Exhibit, Annual Youth Art Exhibit at the Arlo and Anne Worth Gallery, The Cedar County Fair and finally on our Hartington Public School Web Page.

WHEN WILL YOUR CHILD HAVE ART ?

Elementary students come to the Art Room 1 day each week. Classes are 50 minutes in length. Your child will create approximately 12-20 art projects during the school year. An art project can require 2-6 class periods to complete. The 5th & 6th Grade projects are usually fewer but more involved. Please have your child dress appropriately. Art can be messy!

Secondary students (grades 8-12) will have art everyday for 50 minutes. These students will have more long term assignments, some daily projects and will be engaged in a weekly sketchbook throughout the school year.
I look forward to working with your child this year. My goal is to create a safe, enjoyable environment for learning and growth in the visual arts. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me.
