Hartington-Newcastle Earns 4th Straight State One-Act Title

NORFOLK - Two Northeast Nebraska schools earned trophies Thursday following the second day of the three-day Nebraska State High School Play Production Championships at the Johnny Carson Theatre.  Pawnee City claimed the Class C-2 crown with Laurel-Concord Coleridge judged as second-best.  Sue Brandow directed the comedy “Once Upon a Mattress.”  The tree-time defending Class C-2 champion, Hartington moved up to Class C-1 this year as Hartington-Newcastle and impressed more than 1,000 spectators with their performance of the comedy Evil Dead: The Musical, co directed by A.J. Johnson and Linda Kathol.  All three judges gave the Cedar County school a perfect score of 60.  Louisville earned runner-up honors.
